Day 3 – Devotional
1 John 5:2-3
2 This is how we can be sure that we love the children of God: by having a passionate love for God and by obedience to his commands. 3 True love for God means obeying his commands, and his commands don’t weigh us down as heavy burdens.
2 John 5:6
5 Dearest woman, I have a request to make of You. It is not a new commandment but a repetition of the one we have had from the beginning: that we constantly love one another. 6 This love means living in obedience to whatever God commands us. For to walk in love toward one another is the unifying commandment we’ve heard from the beginning.
“Loving me empowers You to obey my commands.
Those who truly love me are those who obey my commands. Whoever passionately loves me will be passionately loved by my Father. And I will passionately love You in return and will manifest my life within You.”
You are my Lord, my God, my King. You are worthy of all of my worship. Help me, by Your grace, to know You more and love You so deeply and dearly that the things of this world fade away and grow strangely dim.
I see my sinfulness. I feel my weakness.
I see my self-centeredness. I feel my flesh want its own way.
I see my pride. I feel my flesh rise up inside.
Lord, I love You. I want to love You more.
I want a heart that wants to serve You before myself.
I want actions that spring from a surrendered will.
I want WORDS that flow from a heart that loves others more than myself.
Lord, I want to love You.
I want to love You more than anything or anyone.
I want to love You more than I love myself.
I want my deeds and actions to reflect You and Your character.
I want others to see You in me—and not just me.
I need You every minute of every day, and I need Your WORD.
My hardness of heart, my thick headedness, my stubborn ways, and my human passions all keep me from knowing You as well as I could and seeing You as You truly are. Help me see You, help me hear You, and help my mind understand You.
Lord, grant me Your Grace! Help me to Love You in full surrender and obedience.
In Your name Jesus, Amen.
